The Machine
Presentation
Each presentation is one piece: a performance, an installation or a score.
Metronome to metronome
A technician starts a single metronome swinging. Instruments are brought on one by one and build to a crescendo, then the stage is stripped back to just the metronome.
Graphic score
Sheet music with sketches and images inside the bar lines, communicating what each section should feel like and leaving instrumentation and sound to the performer.
Hand-tool build
Performers build a wooden percussion structure with hand tools, all playing in time. Each one works a given polyrhythm with their tools.
Live sequencer
A live feed of the instruments. Viewers request an instrument and sequence its rhythm from wherever they are watching.
Music store
Musicians, apparently shopping separately in a music store, suddenly fall into sync and play one piece across the departments.
